The Folklore of a Haunted Theme Park

Title : The Folklore of a Haunted Theme Park (submission for Form 4 Mid-Year Examination 2023) Written by : Puteri Yasmin Liyana (4ST1)

I woke up as I saw the darkness filling the space. Not long after, I heard a snoring sound by my side. “Oh, we’re on a field trip,” I thought to myself. Everything else was shadowed in the dark as a few faces gleamed under the dimmed light on the moving bus.

The bus stopped moving out of the sudden. “We’re here, kids!” I heard Mr Safwan’s voice from far away. Everyone eagerly stood up from their seats and rushed outside as soon as the door was opened. Nothing. That was all I saw. A blank space with zero population.

“Where are we again?” I asked. “Our destination, of course. The theme park,” Mr Safwan casually answered as if the place is normal for an adult that brought a bunch of immature kids with him. As we walked closer, I saw a gate to the supposed theme park.

An eerie vibe immediately crawled up to my skin as my hair stood erect. “Is this the place?” Mr Safwan asked as he pulled out his phone. Finally, he was knocked with some

sense. “Should we ask the bus driver or is it too late now?” Putri asked as she was pointing at our school bus that drove away, leaning us stranded there.

There was no turning back now. We continued walking. Immediately, a scary-looking clown jumped on us with a chainsaw in his hands. Blood was dripping down his chin. All of us stood behind Mr Safwan for safety except for Putri. “Do you think you’re so scary?” Putri asked as she held a branch for defense. The clown immediately sliced the branch with the

chainsaw as Putri slowly walked behind Mr Safwan. “Tell me that you’re an idiot, without telling me so,” Alesya told her.

Putri’s action caused the clown to get angry as it began to chase us down. We all ran into the theme park, getting deeper into the darkness of the unknown. “I know places we can hide!” Mr Safwan shouted.

Mr Safwan tried to reach for help but there was no service. Aerin was already looking sick as she had the worst immune system among us. Putri and Alesya on the other hand were hugging tight as their lives depend on it.

I had no choice but to think of a quick solution. I looked around with my flashlight and noticed that we were hiding in the paintball area. I grabbed the guns and passed one of them to Putri.

“Here’s the plan. Alesya, you’re going to walk Aerin out of this horrendous place. Mr Safwan, you should look after them. If Alesya’s down, Aerin will too. Putri, you’re going with me,” I told them clearly.

“Why me?” Putri asked. “You started this madness, so you’re going to end it as well,” I smiled sarcastically as I tapped her back.

“They’re going to be fine. Trust me, If the strongest one and the smartest one are combined, they can dominate the world,” Alesya convinced Mr Safwan.

At last, they all agreed to the plan. We all came out of the room as Mr Safwan was shielding Alesya and Aerin with the lid of a trash can. Putri and I were armed with the paintball guns as we observed the area carefully. We all ran past the Ferris wheel as the sound of the chainsaw getting nearer. The evil clown had called out its troops and now had an army.

“Now!” I yelled as we started shooting the clowns in the chest. Aerin managed to grab a chainsaw and threw it to the clowns, though she was looking like a sick zombie. We hit them with a shotgun as we shot in the dark.

We eventually got out of the woods and survived the great war. Mr Safwan managed to call the bus driver back and we went home safely. My friends were impressed with my shooting skills. They also praised me for my bravery and quick action.
